The Science of Cutting Cake

The science of cake cutting

Here is my handy diagram to show you the best way to cut a cake. (Yes I hear you scoff)

But it can save you a lot of time and worry about how many portions your going to get. If it doesn’t work out exactly, don’t worry as there will always be a little extra in the kitchen cake box that isn’t part of the main display cake.

  1. Have some chopping boards at the ready one big one and a medium one will help you along . A long sharp bread or meat carving knife will be great

  2. Cut the cake vertically as shown in the diagram . This will help you get the depth of each slice which will be somewhere between 3 and 4 inches tall.

  3. Then mark the very top of the cake like a giant hash tag. # or naughts and crosses game. ( keep the lines straight) This will give you a clear idea of the neat individual slices. - Aim to have each slice about an inch and a 1/2 wide and the thickness of about an inch. Like a little rectangle.

  4. There are some Fabbo “you tube” demos that you can search up - so you can always take one minuet to check before the big moment!
